1 in 10 women leave the workplace due to menopause. This is quite a staggering statistic. Menopause has gained more publicity over the years with the help of high profile celebrities such as Davina McCall and Mariella Frostrup, however, this has not necessarily translated to the workplace where women still experience stigma.

The symptoms of menopause can be debilitating for many women. Common symptoms include memory loss, insomnia, hot flushes and anxiety resulting in a loss of confidence in their ability to remain in work. With this in mind, creating a psychologically informed toolkit to support women to remain in work is the focus of a PhD project which Linda Engles currently supervises. She is passionate about raising awareness and educating workplaces on the impact menopause symptoms have on women and to create practical ways they can be supported. The research aims to produce a practical toolkit extending to educating all staff within organisations and ensuring line managers have the right skills and confidence to support impacted employees to remain in the workplace.
