Non-technical skills (NTS) (also known as safety critical skills) are defined as the social (teamwork, leadership, communication), cognitive (situation awareness, decision-making, cognitive readiness, task management) and personal management (stress and fatigue management) skills necessary for safe and effective performance. These skills have been identified as crucial for work safety and performance across a range of high risk industries including offshore drilling, nuclear power, aviation, healthcare, agriculture and forestry.
The APHF team has been conducting NTS research for more than a decade, and in a variety of industries. Please click on relevant industrial area below to learn more!
